Facial Enhancement With Anti-Wrinkle Injections

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are composed of a natural protein that when injected into specific facial muscles; relax wrinkle causing muscles that cause excessive wrinkling of the skin, thus creating a smoother, softer and more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

Anti-wrinkle injections treat wrinkles caused by the contraction of facial muscles. They inhibit the transmission of neurotransmitters from the nerve to the muscle and stop the muscle from contracting and forming wrinkles. After treatment the lines gradually smooth and new lines are prevented from forming.

If you decide not to have further treatments, your muscles will return to normal creasing and your wrinkles will revert to pre-treatment levels.

Are anti-wrinkle injections suitable for me?

Injectable wrinkle treatments are suitable for both women and men of virtually any age who would like to reduce wrinkles and smooth expression lines and have a more relaxed appearance.

It is not recommended to have anti-wrinkle injections during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

What are the most common facial areas treated with anti-wrinkle injections?

Most commonly used for:

  • Frown lines - these are vertical lines that appear between your eyebrows when you frown
  • Forehead lines - these are horizontal lines that form when you raise your eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet - these are lines that radiate from the corner of your eye when you smile or squint
  • Bunny lines - nasal crunch
  • Gummy smiles
  • Eyebrow lift
  • Perioral lines - lines beside the mouth
  • Chin dimpling
  • Platysma bands on neck
  • Mouth frowns

What does the treatment involve?

Treatment involves a number of small injections in the treated areas. This takes only a short time to perform, usually around 10-15 minutes. Needles used are extremely fine and only a small volume is injected. Discomfort experienced is minimal. Ice can be applied prior to injections to help reduce any discomfort.

Alternatively, you can have an anaesthetic cream applied prior to treatment.

The dose recommended for the treatment of frown lines will vary depending on your individual situation and the severity of your frown lines. Your medical clinician will advise you on the right amount for you and which muscles to inject to achieve optimal results.

After the treatment, it takes 2-4 days before the anti-wrinkle injections begin to take effect and 7 days to see the full effect of treatment. Normal activities may be resumed after treatment, but you will be advised not to lie down or exercise for 4 hours after.

How long does the actual treatment last for?

The duration of effectiveness is dependent on the amount administered, but generally it will last between 3 to 4 months.

Studies have shown that anti-wrinkle injections are more effective and last longer when given at regular intervals of 3 to 4 months due to progressive weakening of the muscles treated.

What are the side effects of anti-wrinkle treatments?

Side effects are usually temporary and localised to the area injected. Possible side effects include headaches, stinging, bruising, swelling and redness. Local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids, skin tightness, tingling sensation and nausea are possible side effects.

Cost of anti-wrinkle injections

Cost depends on amount administered and this can vary depending on gender, strength of facial muscles, treatment and degree of wrinkling.

Yvette will advise you of cost at the time of consultation, as each person’s requirements are different.
